Process Automation & Electrical Lead

SaltX has a clear mission: to eliminate the industry’s dependence on fossil fuels. We start where emissions are highest – in the lime and cement industries – which together account for more than 8% of global CO₂ emissions. By developing and industrialising new electrification technologies, we enable a gigaton-scale transition towards a completely fossil-free industry.

Our patented innovation, the Electric Arc Calciner (eAC), makes it possible to replace fossil-based heating with renewable electricity – while capturing carbon dioxide directly during the heating process. This represents a major step towards a sustainable, circular and climate-neutral industry.

SaltX is now scaling up rapidly and is looking for a Process Automation & Electrical Lead who wants to take our processes from pilot plant to commercial scale – and drive the technology all the way to full industrialisation.

The Role

As Process Automation & Electrical Lead, you will be a key member of our engineering team of approximately ten engineers. You will own and lead SaltX’s electrical and automation scope in pilot and commercial projects, starting with our flagship project Pilot 40. 

The role is automation-focused, with electrical competence as a necessary foundation. You act as the technical owner and sub-project lead for automation and control, ensuring that SaltX’s system – the heart of the plant – is correctly designed, delivered, and integrated into the overall facility.

You will report to the Head of Engineering and work closely with colleagues, customers, EPC partners, system integrators, and suppliers.

Your Responsibilities

• Own the electrical and automation scope for SaltX pilot and commercial installations.
• Define automation architecture and control philosophy for both subsystems and complete plants.
• Define requirements, interfaces, and specifications based on process needs, plant standards, and customer requirements.
• Act as the technical interface towards EPC contractors, system integrators (e.g. ABB), electrical and instrumentation consultants, and customers.
• Ensure stable operation and correct integration of SaltX systems into the overall plant (e.g. DCS, communication protocols such as OPC UA, Profinet).
• Own the hardware delivery, including specification of control cabinets, PLCs, instrumentation, and related components.
• Participate hands-on in FAT, SAT, commissioning, and site activities when required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and long-term standardisation of SaltX’s automation platform.

SaltX does not deliver the full plant automation, but a critical technical subsystem. Your role is to ensure that this subsystem is robust, compliant, and seamlessly integrated.

Who Are You?

To succeed in this role, you are an engineer who combines strong technical competence with the ability to turn complex requirements into working, industrial solutions. You take ownership, communicate clearly, and thrive in technically advanced, fast-moving environments.

We believe you have:

• A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid experience in industrial automation and control systems, preferably within continuous process industries.
• Experience working with PLC/DCS, SCADA, instrumentation, and industrial communication protocols.
• The ability to define control philosophy, system architecture, and interfaces – not just implement code.
• Experience from cross-functional industrial projects involving EPCs, machine suppliers, and plant owners.
• A strong interest in sustainability and technology-driven transformation.
• Excellent command of English; Swedish is a merit.
